First Hospital Stay

It isn’t as serious as it sounds… hospital stay always sounds serious…I am pretty sure this is my first stay at a hospital for one of my kids (other then birthing) and that is pretty good considering I have been doing the mom thing for eight years.

Baby Boy and I have been at the hospital for the majority of two days. Took him in for a doctor check up because his breathing wasn’t sounding great and the doctor sent us to the hospital because it seemed like asthma. The first trip up we where sent home after treatment because he was doing better and they couldn’t say for sure he had asthma. A few hours later we where back up because he was worse. This time he was admitted to the hospital due to labored breathing issues and we spent the day there so he could be observed. They treated him for asthma (puffers and the mask) and that was all he needed, after a few doses of medicine he started to do a lot better. We are now home and he is back to his normal self, eating, sleeping well and playing up a storm.

The whole experience was harder due to no sleep for 48 hours and the effort it took to keep him happy being stuck to a crib all day. He was so bored! Making sure the other three kids where taken care of was a real concern too. Since I am nursing still I had to stay with Baby Boy almost the whole time. I am so thankful for the family and friends who stepped up to help us out with prayers and assistance!

Turns out he probably had an aggressive virus (just a cold) and it ware him down enough that he was struggling to breath and beet the bug off. He has caught bronchial infections (viral) almost monthly since he was born so I figured eventually one might be bad. No asthma diagnosis as he is too little for the breathing test. Between him and his oldest sister I look forward to having them officially tested in the future so we can say for sure one way or the other as far as asthma goes.

We are really thankful to be home. Sleeping in our own beds last night was wonderful!

So does he have RSV? That is that infant virus where they can’t breathe…on a ventilator? That’s what Co had at 5 weeks…
Hope you get lots of rest and no more hospital trips! Still praying for full healing!

  2. Apparently not. He just gets this cough so often that he was warn out and needed some help to fight the bug off. A regular cold always turns into a bronchial infection for him (which is just a bit worse because of swelling in the lungs and takes longer to get over).

i remember our hospital visits with tobiah when she was a baby. when she had a seizure in my arms due to her insane fever, it was one of the scariest moments in my life. espeically cause dean was out of town at the time, and it was the middle of the night. i’m so thankful that God carried us through that and for the wisdom of the doctors that we had for her.

praying for full and complete healing for quade and peace in your household. i hope that they find the source of what’s causing him to be so sick. my friend’s baby was diagnosed with asthma when he was only 2 months, and her other son was only 2 years old, so i’m sure there are ways for them to test for it, even when they’re little.

please let me know if there’s anything else i can do! i have some homemade perogies to drop off… hopefully i’ll remember, later today.

    love you.

  4. Thanks Esther, you where so much help already! We love perogies;P

Yah, we don’t know what to think, they where so vague and wishy washy…hopefully we will find out more through our family doctor. We hope to take him in to a lung specialist or something but no one there gave us information on what to do next so that is what we figure we should do next… they refused to be clear about what they thought it was too… we didn’t know what to think so we went home…

I know what you mean about that…we ended up in emergency rooms all over the country since Jo was 18 months old…only to find out at 6 that she has asthma…and probably has all along. Sounds like that’s what it is to me…they are vague about it until they are old enough for all the tests…which is lovely, but at least you know to let them know he gets frequent chest infections…it gives them a heads up when it happens next time.
