Skating, tobogganing, family gathering around a turkey meal, gifts, laughs, sleep overs, board games, card games and so much more… all with a little flu mixed in.
With our Christmas DAY involving three of the six of us down with flu, aunty and her kids being chased away after a short sleep over, all the gifts remaining unwrapped till late Christmas night (due to the children being too sick) we were all the more grateful for a wonderful Christmas DAY with the Fehr clan on the 29th. We showed up early to skate on the neighbours back yard rink, then had a delightful supper and gift exchange. There were musical performances (as is pretty normal now) and a wonderful game played on a set made by my father in law (name of game still unknown to me). We arrived dressed up and eager to have some real Christmas cheer… and we got just that.
Christmas holidays, in spite of the flu, was full of lovely moments together. Even just this morning my kids jumped into bed with me to whisper stories together, unwilling to venture out till the sun came up oh so late. My six year old mastered skating after her second time out this holiday! My four year old pretended his new sled was the batmobile as he zoomed down the hill with his Dad, emptying many an imaginary machine gun clip on the way. All the relatives got to open itty bitty paper craft filled envelopes that my kids had slaved over for days. Nanny and Papa popped in for a few days in the middle of it all and we got to get to know their newest dog ‘Poppy’. We found many nights to try out all the new board games we got and when it was us and the kids it was a lot silly, little crazy stressful and full of laughter with and at one another. Watching my children in their school holiday concerts, that were so very creative; and finally getting them into a church Christmas concert. The older three threw themselves into singing the songs and being a wonderful boy donkey and two very realistic barn cats.
It was a history making holiday, I do not remember EVER being sick enough to not come out for my gifts on Christmas morning, but it was also the perfect holiday to remember the little things add up to the best memories. Thank God for Christmas!
