TWINKLING EYES

Felt very clever this year.  A day or two before December graced my calendar I did all the hard decorating and cleaning that comes with this holiday seasons arrival.  Twinkling eyed children arrived home that day.  I hadn’t warned them; it is always fun to gift your children a surprise, after all children treasure a good surprise far more then adults.

It’s Good

It was a treasure hunt, that is how I kept my four year old son interested as we rummaged through another thrift store.  In the first isle he found a little red stool just his size.  From then on I was followed by a very happy little man who worked hard to carry this stool all over the store.  When ever we stopped he was filled with joy at the access his stool gave him to the higher up shelves.  And oh how we hunted.  I found a few things for Christmas and he found a colouring book… but in the end the biggest treasure was his red wooden stool… which we of course took home.

guard your hearts and minds

What am I pondering lately?  There are plenty of input sources; of which my own ideals, goals and desires are among the most vocal in my mind and my heart.

Church Kitchens and Community

Church kitchens are so much larger then the average at home kitchen.  I couldn’t figure out where most things were and I had this awful feeling that I  would be of no use to them.  THEY were ladies from my church, part of the Women’s Ministry Team, who had obviously been in this kitchen many times before, working together.  Their cheerful and contagious banter soon eased my nerves.  Belly laughs and warm smiles were everywhere around me as they busied themselves with the brunch preparations.  I adored being welcomed in to their group, such servants hearts and such amazing ladies!

Alone At The Decline Of Day

As I put the kids to bed, alone this evening, the anticipation bloomed within.  I had big beautiful plans to read, tea it up and perhaps even watch some TV of my own choosing.    I could work on my guitar playing, pick out a new song to learn the vocals to.  I could bake uninterrupted or simply dance to music while I catch up on chores (chores that are so much more fun with music blaring).  Perhaps this all could put me in the introverted category, or is a sign I might finally be growing up… or growing older… I prefer to see this contentment with nights alone as a sign that things are more balanced in my world of ‘mommy’.

Radiant

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
    he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.

~Psalms 34 4&5~

Deliverance from our fears has become something totally different to me in my adult years.  As a child, I had the hope that it meant all to be feared would vanish…  now, I see it as not being removed from all my troubles but having the fear vanquished, in spite of my circumstance.  When we live in Christ he gives us his fearless Spirit, a Spirit of sound mind, love and his power; all we need to stand peacefully amidst what was previously our terrors.

If not in the storm then when?

Putting on the armor of God each day could be summed up in the idea of surrendering each day to live consciously within Christ.  Living through him is the most powerful armor one can wear to face this life.  Some of us, more then others, notice or are overwhelmed by the day to day storms.  The storms are for real, they can be crippling and sneaky and devastating, especially if your spiritual skin is too thin.

A Week Of Mornings

If you like table top books I highly recommend ‘A Year of Mornings’.  Inspired by this photography book’s subject and approach, AND to celebrate not being sick every morning any more, I collected a week of morning pictures for this post

Prancing

Some times I feel so much better then I have come to expect that I think about prancing through the day.  As long as I am still at home I can assume everyone will understand and not be weirded out by it… that thought leaves pretty much the moment I am locking the door and jumping into the van… even before I am out of the driveway.  Good mornings really do warrant something though, don’t they?  Today I went with it and got a ‘to do’ done that I had been easily putting off.  The prancing and dancing came later… once I had returned home 🙂
